Frequently Asked Questions

I have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions, please contact us using the form on the Contact page, and we will respond as soon as possible.

  1. Are the procedures in Bowen therapy painful?

No, not at all. On the contrary, during therapy, patients relax a lot, most of the time even falling asleep for a few moments. The movements applied are very gentle and do not cause any discomfort to the patient.

  1. Do I need to prepare in any way for the therapy session?

It is important that no other body treatments or therapies have been performed within the last 5 days before the session. You can find the list here.

Ideally, you should write down a brief history on a piece of paper, grouping it into different categories, including the approximate age at which illnesses, surgeries, and accidents in your life occurred. It is also very important to list the medications you are currently taking.

It is recommended to come in loose clothing, over which the therapy can be performed—this is in case you do not want the therapy to be done directly on the skin for various reasons. Although techniques are much more effective when there is skin contact, we understand those who prefer otherwise.

  1. Are there any contraindications?

No.

However, there are three cases where certain procedures cannot be applied:

  1. In the first months of pregnancy, the coccyx procedure cannot be applied.
  2. For people with silicone implants, the chest procedure cannot be applied.
  3. If the patient has undergone surgery on the condyles, the jaw (TMJ) procedure cannot be applied for 6 months after the surgery.

Therefore, it is very important to inform the therapist if you are in any of these three situations.

  1. Are there any restrictions during the treatment period?

The first 24 hours are the most important, so do not engage in any excesses of any kind.

In particular, please do not engage in contact sports or especially not in excessive sports activities (you can do sports, it is even recommended and helps the therapy—but not excessive or rough sports). Depending on the severity of your condition, it may be necessary to refrain from sports for a week.

During the entire treatment period, do not take hot or cold showers or baths, or alternate between them; warm baths and showers at the appropriate temperature are allowed. No jacuzzi, no sauna. Also, do not apply hot or cold compresses to the body.

  1. How long does a session last?

A Bowen Therapy session can vary between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the procedures applied.

The therapy evaluation lasts up to 50 minutes, and in exceptional cases, it may take longer.

  1. How often can Bowen therapy be performed?

Exactly every 7 days.

Earlier sessions are possible in the following cases:

  • for pregnant women who have pain or problems
  • for asthmatics in crisis
  • if an accident occurs, the patient becomes ill, or there is a relapse of the disease.

For more severe illnesses or special cases, therapy will be scheduled at a longer interval to allow the body time to process all the information.

  1. When will I see the first effects?

Effects are felt during the therapy sessions. After the session, the body will start working to resolve various physical/psychological issues and will continue to do so for up to 14 days. Each person is different, and actual healing may take more or less time depending on various factors (severity of the problem, adherence to treatment instructions, age, lifestyle, and diet, etc.).
